Financial Assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the implementation of Greater Colombo Water Supply and Wastewater Management Improvement Programme

- the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is to provide financial assistance in a sum of US $300 million for the implementation of the above programme. The total cost of this programme is US $400 million, of which the contribution by the Government will be US $100 million. This programme consists of two main components, which are, enhancing the water supply the Greater Colombo Region and improving the wastewater management system. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board under the supervision of the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage and the Colombo Municipal Council under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Council, will be the implementing agencies of this programme. The proposal made by H.E. the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance and Planning, to enter into two loan agreements with the ADB, was approved by the Cabinet.
