Environmental Rehabilitation of Areas Affected by the Implementation of Infrastructure Projects
- currently, a methodology is in operation by way of environmental impact assessment process, to minimize the damage that can be caused by implementation of a project. It has been observed that, in projects such as highway constructions and township development, the environmental damage that would cause, affects tourism, which has a high potential for using the environment in a sustainable way. On the proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Minister of Environment relating to the above, Cabinet approval was granted to implement an Environmental Management Plan in association with the project investors and stakeholders of the State and the Private Sector, after conducting a study on the impact that could be caused to the environment by the projects.
