Establishment of Diplomatic Relations with Countries of Latin America
- Latin American countries which were under the British, French and other European Colonial rule are today marching towards sustainable growth and development as emerging States, and promotion of Sri Lanka's diplomatic relations in a wide scale in this region will be another step forward in Sri Lanka's foreign policy. Out of the 33 countries in Latin America, which are members of the United Nations, Sri Lanka has so far established diplomatic relations with 20 countries. The proposal made by Hon. (Prof.) G.L. Pieris, Minister of External Affairs, to establish diplomatic relations with the following 13 countries, was approved by the Cabinet.

* St. Kits & Nevis * St. Lucia
* St. Vincent and the Grenadines
