Project on Ambient Air Quality Monitoring in Sri Lanka
- it has been observed that with the increasing vehicle fleet and industrial and commercial activities in the country, pollutant emissions to the ambient atmosphere is increasing. As the main regulating agency responsible for environmental protection and management, the Central Environment Authority is responsible for monitoring data on ambient air quality throughout the country. The above project includes the identification of monitoring locations suitable for monitoring network, purchasing four ambient air quality monitoring stations, installation of monitoring instruments in identified locations etc. The proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Minister of Environment, to implement the above project at a cost of Rs.120 million, with funds already provided through the Budget 2012, was approved by the Cabinet.
