Supplying of Locally produced Maize for Thriposha Programme - 2012

- a quantity of 15,000 MT of locally produced Maize is required annually for the manufacture of Thriposha. On the proposal made by Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Health, for the purchase maize for the manufacture of Thriposha, Cabinet of Ministers granted approval for the purchase of the annual requirement of maize from the identified Farmer Organizations and the suppliers who have been recommended by the Regional Development Bank, at the rate of Rs.42/- to Rs.45/- per kg. Cabinet also decided that an Action Plan should be formulated jointly by the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture and the Thriposha Institute, to enhance the production capacity of the Thriposha Institute and increase the domestic production of the basic raw materials such as soya beans and maize so that excess quantities of Thriposha could be supplied to the export market.
