Establishment of a subsidiary company fully owned by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board named ?Lanka Water Services (Pvt) Ltd.?, to provide bottled drinking water

- it has been observed that non-availability of safe drinking water in certain areas of the country such as the North Central Province, has resulted in the spread of Chronic Kidney Disease. A pilot project to provide water only for drinking and cooking purposes in the form of bulk bottled water to a few selected villages in the affected areas of Anuradhapura has already commenced and is found to be successful. The proposal made by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage to establish a subsidiary company fully owned by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board to carry out the production and distribution of bottled/containerized safe drinking water targeting the affected areas, was approved by the Cabinet.
