Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2012-06-01
The Project for improvement of Basic Social Services in Developing Regions (JICA)
- the objective of this project is to enhance non-communicable diseases management through improvement of facilities in secondary level hospitals and drug security. The project consists of three components which are as follows:

* Strengthening of State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation.
* Strengthening of Secondary Hospitals - four Base Hospitals, namely, Teldeniya in the Central Province, Galgamuwa in the North Western Province, Kalawanchikudy in the Eastern Province; and Warakapola in the Sabaragamuwa Province have been selected for the purpose.
* Provision of Ambulances - 124 Ambulances are to be provided for the 7 developing regions, other than the Southern and Western Provinces.

The proposal made by Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Health, to implement this project with financial assistance from Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) at a total cost of Japanese Yen 4760 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
