Hambantota Port Development Project (Phase II)

- construction work of Phase I of the project is nearing completion. Under Phase I, two multipurpose berths and 1 oil berth were constructed along with basic port infrastructures. Industrial operations, general cargo handling and bunkering operations can be undertaken with these facilities. Phase II of the project includes construction of four container berths, one oil berth, two multipurpose berths, naval berths and other infrastructures. The proposal made by H.E. the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Ports and Highways, to appoint a Cabinet Appointed Negotiating Committee and a Project Committee to evaluate detailed implementation arrangements of the project and submit them to the Cabinet for consideration, was approved by the Cabinet.
