Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2012-05-03
Trainees who are undergoing theoretical training on electrical work in Institutions under the purview of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development to be sent for apprentice training at the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)
- considering the difficulties experienced by the Ceylon Electricity Board in recruiting trained electricians required for the CEB, a Committee of Officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development and the Ministry of Power and Energy has examined this matter and made recommendations. According to the recommendations, it is proposed to commence a course in electricity at selected Centres of the Vocational Training Institutions under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development, as a pilot project. G.C.E. (O./L.) qualified youth are to be taken in for this course which will be conducted in Sinhala and Tamil Medium. Candidates who successfully complete the theoretical and practical training are to be recruited to the Ceylon Electricity Board. The joint proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Power and Energy; and Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development, to proceed with the project, was approved by the Cabinet.
