Acceptance of Montreal Convention on Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air

- Sri Lanka has ratified the Warsaw Convention and the Hague Protocol. It protects the interests of the passenger and facilitates the swift recovery of proven damages without the need for lengthy litigation. Air Carriers will also be able to achieve substantive operational savings through the use of electronically produced and simplified documents of carriage, especially in the cargo field. The proposal made by Hon. Piyankara Jayaratne, Minister of Civil Aviation, to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft legislation for implementation of the provisions of the Convention in Sri Lanka, was approved by the Cabinet.
