An Additional Holiday for Vesak Day Celebrations

- arrangements are being made to observe Buddhist activities in all temples throughout the Island during the Vesak festival week, in view of the 2600th Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi. Since the Vesak Full Moon Poya day and the day following falls on Saturday 05th and Sunday 06th May 2012, the proposal made by Hon. D.M. Jayaratne, the Prime Minister, to declare 07th of May 2012 as a Public Holiday, was approved by the Cabinet.
