Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Agriculture of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service on Cooperative Biosecurity Initiatives

- measures devised by the International Plant Protection Convention of which Sri Lanka is a signatory, help to prevent the spread and introduction of pests of plant and plant products when exchange of commodities takes place among countries. Fumigating with Methyl Bromide is a method of treatment used to prevent such occurrences. The above MOU will facilitate the training of Quarantine Officers of the Ministry of Agriculture and treatment providers of the Private Sector, through providing required skills on Methyl Bromide fumigation. The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeyawardena, Minister of Agriculture to sign the above MOU between the two countries, was approved by the Cabinet.
