Twenty - Twenty (T/20) World Cricket Championship of the International Cricket Council (ICC) - in terms of the agreement already reached, Twenty
- Twenty (T/20) World Cricket Championship is scheduled to be held around September/October 2012 in Sri Lanka and 12 Member countries are expected to take part. There will be 20 teams comprising both males and females and altogether 52 matches will be played in the tournament. The following grounds are to be made available for the purpose:

* R. Premadasa International Cricket Ground ;
* Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Ground ;
* Pallekele International Cricket Ground ; and
* Rangiri Dambullu International Cricket Ground.

It is proposed to hold the tournament for 20 days and the ICC has agreed to provide a direct grant of 9.4 million US Dollars to Sri Lanka as expenses of holding the tournament and has also planned to spend a further 30 million US Dollars in Sri Lanka as expenses in the tournament. The proposal made by Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Sports, to proceed with the programme of work, was approved by the Cabinet.
