Construction of the SAARC Cultural Centre at Naawimana in Matara

- the proposal made by Hon. T.B. Ekanayaka, Minister of Culture and the Arts, for the construction of the SAARC Cultural Centre at a cost of Rs.500 million and for the work to be completed within the first quarter of 2013, was approved by the Cabinet. The objectives of the Centre are:

* Strengthening regional cultural relations through the Cultural Centre.
* Protecting and promoting regional heritage and traditional diversities.
* Providing opportunities for traditional teachings, studies, explorations and research in the region.
