Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2011-11-30

Cost Revision and Regularizing the appointment of Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) as a Consultant & Construction Contractor for four construction projects of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka

- the Eastern University consists of 05 Faculties established for Agriculture, Science, Arts and Culture, Commerce and Management and Healthcare Sciences, including the Campuses at Trincomalee and Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Batticaloa and has a student population of a little over 3500. The following projects have been approved by the Cabinet for implementation:>br>
* Building Complex for the Library;
* Building Complex for the Faculty of Commerce and Management;
* Building Complex for the Zoology Department/Faculty of Science; and,
* Building Complex for the Faculty of Arts and Culture.

The proposal made by Hon. S.B. Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education, to revise the total cost estimates of the 04 projects and to regularize the appointment of the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau as Consultant and Construction Contractor, was approved by the Cabinet. The construction work will be done with funds provided in the 2012 Budget Estimates and those to be provided under the Medium Term Budgetary Framework 2013 - 2014.
