Construction of Hambantota Heritage Museum

- the establishment of heritage museum at Hambantota is based on the concept of preserving and maintaining the unique cultural and historical heritage of Ruhuna carried forward over a long period of time by the people of Southern Province. By the proposed museum, it is envisaged to present Ruhunu cultural heritage to the local and foreign travelers visiting the south via new Hambantota port and the proposed International Airport. The museum will also be a tourist destination while providing a highly valuable educational opportunity to the local students. The proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Jagath Balasuriya, Minister of National Heritage, to establish the above museum in the old Kachcheri building complex at Hambantota, was approved by the Cabinet.
