Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2011-10-12
Lanka Phosphate Limited - Submission of 2006/2007 Annual Report to the Parliament
- the Company has achieved a noteworthy progress with the sale of 39,048 Mt. of Eppawela Rock Phosphate and 5152 Mt. of High Grade Eppawela Rock Phosphate and the net profit before taxation has exceeded Rs.42.3 million as compared to the profit of Rs.27.4 million in the previous year. Eppawela Rock Phosphate needs more than 90% of the entire phosphorus fertilizer demand of the county's plantations, namely tea, rubber and coconut sectors. Experiments carried out has proved that local Single Super Phosphate is a viable alternative for imported Triple Super Phosphate in the near future. In this backdrop, the company which is fully owned by the Government of Sri Lanka, has made arrangements to set up a Single Super Phosphate Manufacturing Plant and a Sulphuric Acid Plant at a cost of nearly Rs.700 million to produce the country's requirement of phosphate fertilizer.
