Annual Report of the Water Resources Board - 2009
- during the year under review 149 Hydro Geological Investigations have been conducted and 83 tube wells constructed. Action has been taken by the Water Resources Board for cleaning shallow wells in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts, which had been used by the people living in those areas. The project costing Rs.21 million was funded by the UNICEF. The Underground Water Resources Development Project of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone, funded by the Indian Government, was also undertaken by the Board. The main objective of this project was to increase the volume of water consumed by the BOI for its factories in the Free Trade Zone. Special constructions were made to divert rain water to an underground water system. The estimated cost of the project was Rs.7.7 million.
