'Gajamithuro' Programme - 2012

- on a proposal made by Hon. S.M. Chandrasena, Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife, the Department of Wildlife Conservation has launched a project named 'Gajamithuro' with the objective of minimizing Human-Elephant Conflict in Sri Lanka. This programme has been planned to be implemented in 58 Divisional Secretary Divisions spreading in 15 Districts within the country. The proposal made by the Minister for implementation of this project at a total cost of Rs.442 million, with Rs.200 million to be provided in the Annual Budget for 2012 and the balance within the Medium Term Expenditure Frame Work, was approved by the Cabinet.
