Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2011-09-21
Special Flood Mitigatory Measures being carried out by the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation (SLLR&DC)
- Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation has adopted several urgent flood mitigatory measures in the Colombo Metropolitan Region which include rehabilitation of the existing canal system, dredging of low lying lands, controlling of haphazard filling of low lying lands etc. and under this scheme a number of low lying areas in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Battaramulla, Pelawatta, Diyawanna Oya and Thalawathugoda have been identified for implementation of these special projects. These projects have been commenced in November 2010 and are to be completed before the end of 2011. The estimated cost up to the end of 2011 is Rs.483 million. The proposal made by H.E. the President, as the Minister of Defence, for supplementary allocation of Rs.483.0 million to be made to the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
