- the CEB reached a 4.2 million customer base during 2009, by the addition of 191,887 customers. The percentage of household electrified in the country stands at 85% in 2009. A number of rural electrification projects have been completed in 2009 with the assistance of donor countries and the Government. More electricity to the national grid is to be added on completion of coal power projects at Norochcholai and Trincomalee. Lighting Sri Lanka Projects have commenced in most provinces with funds provided by the General Treasury to achieve the target of 100% electrification by year 2012. The above report submitted by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Power and Energy, was approved for presentation in Parliament.
