Secondary Towns and Rural Community based Water Supply & Sanitation Project - Sri Lanka -ADB Loan Nos.1993 SRI (SF), 2275 SRI, 2276 SRI (SF) - Construction and Completion of head works, Raw Water Transmission Main, Treatment Plant and Treated Water Pumping main (Plant & Design Build)

- the Government has received a loan from the Asian Development Bank for the above Project. This project will provide water supply facilities to four Urban Centres such as, Hambantota, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa and Muttur. The Hambantota sub-project consists of four contracts:

* Supply and Laying of Transmission Main from Ambalantota to Mirijjawila;
* Construction and completion of Water Transmission Main, Treatment Plant and Treated Water Pumping Main;
* Supply and Laying of Distribution Pipes and construction of Water Towers; and,
* Construction and completion of Salinity Barrier across Walawe River at Ambalantota.

The proposal made by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardane, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage to increase the contract sum to US$ 13.79 million and Local Funds to Rs.1033.66 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
