Commemoration of World Habitat Day, 2011 - 03rd October 2011

- since 1986, the first Monday in October has been declared as the World Habitat Day. The main objective in commemorating this day is to invite attention of all stakeholders in the settlement sectors with regard to problems existing in respect of housing and settlements and to find alternative solutions for same. The proposal made by Hon. Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, to declare the Settlement Week from 29th September to 03rd October 2011 and to implement s series of programmes in this regard, was approved by the Cabinet.
