National Action Plan for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights in Sri Lanka - 2011 - 2016

- this action plan has been prepared in consultation with and the cooperation of the relevant stakeholders of the Government as well as the civil society. This document not only provides a detailed policy and a legislative programme to realize the fundamental rights and freedoms provided in the Constitution, but also looks to expand these rights and freedoms. This action plan mainly focuses on the following:

* Civil and Political Rights;
* Economic Social and Cultural Rights;
* Prevention of Torture;
* Rights of Women;
* Migrant Workers;
* Children; and,
* Internally Displaced Persons.

The above Action Plan presented by Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Plantation Industries, was approved by the Cabinet.
