Establishment of Diplomatic Relations with the Republic of EL Salvador

- The Government of the Republic of EL Salvador has expressed its wish to establish diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka in order to enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. There has been an increase in trade between the two countries during the last five years, with the trade balance being in favour of Sri Lanka. EL Salvador is a smallest country in Central America but has the 3rd largest economy in that region . The proposal made by Hon (Prof.) G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
