Annual Report of the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) for the year 2008
- training provided by NAITA could be broadly categorized as follows:

* Enterprise Based Apprenticeship Training - under this programme, trainees are attached to an enterprise throughout the training period to earn skills by doing. This programme provides skills specific to the enterprises to which apprentices are attached according to a training guide prepared by NAITA in consultation with the employer.
* Institutional / Centre Based Duel Apprenticeship Training - in this system, trainees are directly enrolled to the National Level Training Institutes for a specific period of institutional training followed by an on-the-job training component in public or private sector industrial organizations.
* In Plant Training - this offers training for undergraduates of the Engineering Degree Courses at Moratuwa, Peradeniya and Ruhuna Universities and Diploma Courses conducted by the Universities and other tertiary level educational institutions.
* On-the-job Training - NAITA conducts a programme of 06 months duration for students of other vocational training institutions.

In 2008, NAITA has recruited 25875 apprentices for different modes of training. The above report submitted by Hon.Dallas Alahapperuma, Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development, was approved by the Cabinet for presentation in Parliament.
