International Conference on the Theme "Community and Water Services - Challenges for Sustainability"

- the Community Water Supply Project has been designed to motivate and encourage rural communities to be self-reliant in their water supply and sanitation needs. This project has been implemented in stages in various parts of the country with the direct participation of the community. There are nearly 3500 community based organizations formed under this project, covering of approximately 600,000 families. The proposal made by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage to hold an International Conference on the above Theme from 29th to 30th September 2011 in Kandy, with the entire cost being borne by foreign/local organizations who are directly involved in water supply and sanitation sector activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
