Implementing Housing Project for Tsunami affected people in Sainthamaruthu Divisional Secretariat Division in Ampara District as Owner Driven Housing Construction Programme

- a grant of US $6.2 million was received from the Government of Bolivian Republic of Venezuela in 2005 to construct houses for the Tsunami affected people in the above area and 199 houses constructed by the State Engineering Corporation utilizing these funds have been handed over to the beneficiaries in 2010. The proposal made by Hon. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development, to construct 200 houses under the above project for the remaining 200 beneficiaries, in the reclaimed Government land at Karawahuwatta, Sainthamaruthu, utilizing the balance funds from the above grant, with unskilled labour component being provided by the beneficiaries, was approved by the Cabinet.
