The Project for the Reconstruction of five (5) Bridges in Eastern Province

- Eastern Province was greatly affected by the Tsunami in 2004 and also due to the conflict situation which prevailed sometime back. The Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has extended a grant towards the cost of the above project. The objective of this project is to stabilize and enhance socio-economic activity and to expedite progress and peace in the region through improving accessibility through the Eastern Province. The proposal made by H.E. the President for the construction of four (04) bridges on Peradeniya - Badulla - Chenkaladi road (A005) and one (01) bridge on Batticoloa - Tirikkondiadimadu - Trincomalee road (A015), was approved by the Cabinet. The total amount of the grant is Rs.1400 million and the contribution of domestic fund is Rs.530 million.
