Construction of Ellewewa Reservoir

- the proposed reservoir is located at Viralagala village at Embilipitiya in the Ratnapura District. This project has been proposed to be constructed by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, to overcome the scarcity of water in the Panamure Scheme. Implementation of this project at an estimated cost of Rs.470 million to be provided from 2012 - 2014, will alleviate the hardships faced by the farmers in the Panamure Scheme. Cultivation of paddy lands which was only 215 acres some time back has now been increased up to 1250 acres. In addition, it is expected to generate 2.59 GWH of energy from the proposed mini hydro power plant.
