Appointment of Mr. N.K. Illangakoon, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police as the new Inspector General of Police
- the proposal made by H.E. the President to appoint Mr. N.K. Illangakoon, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police as the new Inspector General of Police with immediate effect, was approved by the Cabinet. Mr. Illangakoon joining the Police Service on 20th May 1982 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has served in various parts of the country as Superintendent of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police. He has served in the Police Special Task Force for 11 years in Jaffna, Batticaloa and Ampara. He is a Graduate of the University of Colombo and has obtained the Post-Graduate Degree in Criminology and Police Management from the University in Great Britain in 1996. He is the most senior officer in the Police Service.
