Community Water Supply and Sanitation Project (CWSSP)

- this project comprises of several sub-projects located in various parts of the country which are implemented in stages with the participation of the community in the relevant areas. There are about 3500 such projects covering about 600,000 families formed under these projects. The Community Based Organizations to which these sub-projects are entrusted on completion, to manage, maintain and sustain them, are yet to acquire the required skill and capacity to manage them on their own. On a proposal made by Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage to establish a Water Supply and Sanitation Trust with Rs.50 million to be provided from the Consolidated Fund, to manage these sub-projects until such time the desired objectives are achieved, was approved by the Cabinet.
