Import of Supplementary Food Crop Seeds and Distribution of same among farmers free of charge

- due to heavy rains experienced in the country during the early part of this year supplementary food crop cultivation has been affected to a certain extent. On intimation by the Government of Sri Lanka, the Government of India has agreed to provide the necessary seed varieties. The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Agriculture to purchase the required quantities of seed varieties of Green Gram, Black Gram, Ground Nuts, Bombay Onions, Cowpea and Chillies from India, at a cost of Rs.48.46 million was approved by the Cabinet.
