Declaration of 02nd of August the date on which the Survey Department was established, as the National Surveyors' Day

- Survey Department is the oldest Government Department in Sri Lanka established in 1800. This was on a proclamation issued by the then Governor Sir Fredrick North on 2nd August. Initial survey work for the commencement of large scale multi-purpose development schemes is handled by the Survey Department. The proposal made by Hon. Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, Minister of Lands and Land Development to declare 02nd August as the National Surveyors' Day was approved by the Cabinet.
