Amendments to the Universities Act No.16 of 1978 and the Universities (Amendment) Act No.07 of 1985

- the University Grants Commission (UGC) is the apex body of all Higher Educational Institutions established in Sri Lanka and coordinating of university education and maintenance of academic standards of these institutions are too major objectives of this Commission. The proposal made by Hon. S.B. Dissasnayake, Minister of Higher Education to increase the number of UGC Members to 15, drawn from various fields who have rendered distinguished services in Tertiary and Vocational Education, Legal, Financial, Quality Assurance, Professional, Higher Educational, Public and Private Sectors, and also to increase the number of Members of the University Senate which is the Executive Board and the Board of Control of the Universities, was approved by the Cabinet.
