Amendment to the Industrial Disputes Act No. 43 of 1950

- under the proposed amendment, new Sub-Section (1) of Section 43 is introduced to make any person who commits an offence under this Act liable on conviction, to a fine enhanced from Rs.500/- to Rs.5000/- or to imprisonment for a term enhanced from six months to twelve months or both such fine an imprisonment. The fine imposed for unfair labour practices has been increased from Rs.20,000/- to Rs.100,000/-. The proposal made by Hon. Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Labour and Labour Relations to publish the Amending Bill in the Gazette and to present it in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
