Agreement between Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization concerning the use of Primary Seismic, Auxiliary Seismic and Hydroacoustic Data for Tsunami Warning Purposes

- Subsequent to the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 several international initiatives were launched to develop an effective Tsunami Warning System in the Indian Ocean. In order to obtain assistance under this organization, it is important to enter into an Agreement with the Preparatory Commission. On a joint proposal made by Hon. (Prof.) G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Minister of Environment and Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Disaster Management, Cabinet approval was granted to enter into the above Agreement and to nominate the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau as the Sri Lankan focal point for the purpose.
