Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2011-05-11
Proposed Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Italy and the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on the Bilateral Agreement for the Mutual Recognition of Driving Licences
- There are about 75,000 Sri Lankans living in Italy employed in various fields of work, where some of them are motor vehicle drivers. Due to the difficulties encountered by Sri Lankans in obtaining Driving Licences in Italy, on a proposal made by Hon. Kumara Welgama, Minister of Transport, Cabinet approval was granted to enter into a Bilateral Agreement with Italy for the mutual recognition of Driving Licences. The proposed agreement will facilitate to obtain a valid licence to drive in Italian Territory by those who have been residing in Italy for a period of less than 04 years and who possess Sri Lankan Driving Licences.
