Formulation of a Mechanism to Ensure the Availability of Sand for Construction Purposes at an Affordable Price

- with the increase in the development and construction activities in the country, the demand for sand used for construction purposes has increased significantly during the past few years. The annual demand has been estimated to be nearly 10 million cubic meters. The two types of sand used are inland sand and sea sand. On a proposal made by Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Minister of Environment, Cabinet approval was granted to implement the recommendations of the Officials' Committee appointed for the purpose and to take measures to encourage the use of sea sand for construction purposes.
