Development of Polonnaruwa District General Hospital

- this District General Hospital which was taken over from the Provincial Administration recently, is to be developed as a specialist hospital with all facilities for the people of the Polonnaruwa District and those in the Eastern Part of the Sri Lanka. This hospital also provides clinical training facilities for the students of the Medical Faculty of the Rajarata University which caters to the 720 students. On a proposal made by Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Health, approval was granted to expand and modernize the District General Hospital at Polonnaruwa. Rs.300 million is to be provided by the General Treasury for the initial work in 2011 and the balance requirement of provisions will be made available in the budget for 2012.
