Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2011-05-04

Amend the part (v) of the schedule 1 of the order under section 2 of the State Industrial Corporation Act No 49 of 1957, which published in extraordinary Gazette notification No. 14186 dated 01 October 1964

- with the dawn of peace in the country, the entire coastal areas are now open for fishing operations and this industry provides employment opportunities to about 650,000 people. Geographical location of Sri Lanka creates an easy access to markets in Europe and Japan. With the prevailing peaceful environment in the country local and foreign investors seem to be keen in investing in the fisheries industry in the country. With this in view, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to make certain amendments in the prevailing regulations, was approved by the Cabinet.
