Registration of Aquaculture Societies Regulations, 2009 made by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, under Paragraph (C) of Section 37 of the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) of Sri Lanka Act, No. 53 of 1998
- shrimp farming is the main commercial scale aquaculture carried out under the management of community based organizations in 36 Geographical Divisions in the Puttalam District. Aquaculture is an important sub-sector that can contribute significantly towards the rural economy of the country and it is vital to involve the Community Based Organizations for the development of this sector. Regulations made to provide legal cover and registration for these organizations, on a proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, were approved for presentation in Parliament.
