National HIV / AIDS Policy Sri Lanka - this is a communicable decease without a definite cure and prevention is the only option available to avoid consequences leading to serious mental, social and economic repercussions. Two main broad objectives in this policy are - (i) prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infection in Sri Lanka through effective strategies including mother to child transmission and transmission to blood and blood products; and (ii) improve the quality of life of people infected and or affected by HIV/AIDS and provide quality care and support to them. Cabinet approval was granted for the policy documents submitted by Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Health. |
