Co-Financing Grant for Construction of the Point-Pedro Water Supply Scheme under the Conflict Affected Region Emergency (CARE) Project

- the Asian Development Bank has provided US $150 million for implementation of a multi- sectoral project in the Northern and North Central Provinces, which consists of activities of road connectivity, provision of basic utilities, basic social services and legal infrastructure. The water supply schemes of Echchilampattu and Point-Pedro are planned to be implemented under the water supply sub-component of this project. The International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) is to provide an additional grant funding of US $1.5 million to rehabilitate the above water supply project. About 22,000 people living in the project area will be directly benefited by this project. The proposal made by H.E. the President to enter into a grant agreement with the Asian Development Bank to obtain a grant of US $1.5 million for the purpose was approved by the Cabinet.
