Restoration of Wilakandiya Tank
- this tank is situated in the Mahiyangana Divisional Secretary's Division in the Badulla District. This is said to have been constructed by king Walagamba and later left abandoned after its breach. On a proposal made by Hon. Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Cabinet approval was granted for the restoration of this tank at an estimated cost of Rs.81 million from the funds allocated to the Ministry for the year 2011. After the restoration work is completed, about 500 acres of land will be available for cultivation purposes. It is proposed to cultivate paddy covering the total area of 500 acres during the Maha season and during the Yala season, irrigation facilities will be provided for cultivation of paddy as well as other field crops such as maize, chillies, ground nut etc.
