Financial Assistance of Euro 28 million from the KfW (Kerditanstalt Fur Weideraufbau) of Germany for completion of the Mahamodara Maternity Hospital, Galle

- the government of Germany has agreed to provide Euro 28 million (approximately SLR 4300 million) to complete the balance work of the above hospital which was seriously damaged due the Tsunami in 2004. In addition to the proposed loan facility, a grant of Euro 3 million is to be provided by the Helmut Kohl Maternity Hospital Foundation which provided initial financial assistance for the reconstruction of this hospital, for the provision of essential medical equipment. On completion this hospital will have 600 bed maternity care facilities and 800 patient treatment facilities at the OPD. The proposal made by H.E. the President to enter into the loan agreement was approved by the Cabinet.
