Southern Transport Development Project (STDP) - completion of the Balance Works of Galle Port Access Road in time

- the Southern Expressway is being constructed from Kottawa to Godagama (Matara) and is being implemented through four separate contracts, viz -
* Kottawa - Dodangoda - 34.3 Km
* Dodangoda - Kurundugahahetekma - 31.7 Km
* Kurundugahahetekma - Pinnaduwa - 30.0 Km
* Pinnaduwa - Godagama - 30.0 Km
Since it is expected to commence operation of the Expressway from Kottawa to Pinnaduwa in July 2011, and as the Galle Port Access Road too has to be completed, Cabinet approval was granted to engage the services of domestic contractors who have the capacity and capability to complete construction of this Access Road on time.
