Agreement with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

- The objective of UNESCO is to provide cooperation among nations for peace and security through the development of education, science and culture. Since sports play and important role in the protection of health and physical education, the need to encourage and coordinate international cooperation towards the elimination of doping the in sports has been greatly felt. On a proposal made by the Minister of Sports Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Cabinet approval was granted to sign an Anti-doping agreement with UNESCO for the elimination of doping in sports and to amend the Sports Law No.25 of 1973 and other relevant legislation as found necessary.
