Import of Raw Cashew on temporarily basis to protect Local Cashew Processing Industry

- Cabinet approval has already been granted for the importation of 5000 MT of raw cashew up to 30.11.2010. Since the shortage of cashew in the market has badly effected the confectionery industries and also the tourist industry and also since the cashew harvest commences in April 2011, on a proposal made by the Minister of Minor Export Crop Promotion, Hon. Reginald Cooray, Cabinet approval was granted for the importation of 500 MT of raw cashew from South and Western African countries, India and Indonesia up to 20th March 2011.
