Construction of 500 Housing Units at Dematagoda under Resettlement Programme (Phase II) Award of the Contract for Piling Work
- under the Environmental Improvement Programme of the Beira Lake Restoration Project about 1000 families in unauthorized occupation were identified for relocation and with this in view, the Government commenced a 1000 Housing Units Programme at Dematagoda in 2009. Under Phase I of the project, construction of 320 Housing Units has been completed in December 2009 and they have been allocated to occupants of underserved settlements in the Slave Island area.
Under Phase II of the Project, it is proposed to construct 500 Housing Units in two, ten storeyed buildings at Dematagoda. On a proposal made by H.E. the President, on the recommendation of the Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (CAPC) which evaluated the Bids, Cabinet approval was granted to award the contract for piling works of these 500 Housing Units at Dematagoda for the cost of Rs.198.88 million. The project is to be funded by the Urban Development Authority.
